Bathroom Makeover

So, before Christmas Mr B and I bought a flat (how exciting and grown up)! The bathroom is the first room that we have completely made over and I'm so in love with it that I wanted to share that with you.
The room is super small (this is London), and there are no windows. It was covered in white tiles, with exposed floor boards and had little to no floor space due to the door opening inwards and the bathtub taking up most of the room. It wasn't the worst bathroom ever and was totally liveable but we thought that if we didn't get it done how we wanted it right away it would probably be one of those things that we continually put off.

This mirror was flat (with no storage behind) which is a total waste of space in my opinion when you have a small bathroom.

We decided to have the whole room ripped out and replaced the tub with a walk in shower which freed up so much space. I do like a relaxing bath but I would say on average I get my one every couple of months so it wasn't worth keeping. I plan on making the most of getting relaxing baths whenever I visit home/stay in hotels.

The other key change was making it so the door opened outwards rather than inwards, so we no longer have to dance around the door to get in the room.

I am so in love with the rainfall shower!

We went for a light grey on the tiles to open the room up a bit, with a slightly darker shade on the floor. The ugly cistern has now been boxed away in a tiled area which left us with a lovely shelf free for styling with my favourite scents and candles.

We got our bathroom with The Bathstore and the staff in the Dulwich store were so lovely and helpful. For the fitting the quote The Bathstore gave us was quite expensive (three times what we were paying for all of the products) and so we got a couple of quotes from local plumbers which were one third of the price that The Bathstore had quoted us for the installation. After lots of umms and ahhs we debated for a while longer and ultimately decided to stick with The Bathstore for the installation for the peace of mind given it was a big company and the fitters would know the products well.

While I can recommend the company for the products and service in store I must say that I would NOT recommend having a bathroomed installed by them. Whilst the bathroom itself looks beautiful, and we are thrilled with it, the service throughout and after the fitting was more than stressful. We have actually been waiting weeks for a manager to get back to us regarding a complaint we have made and despite calling a couple of times a week this hasn't been resolved. We will probably be referring this to The Ombudsman once we are permitted (three months after an initial complaint has been raised with the company itself). I am not usually one to write a negative review but honestly, its been awful!

Would you like to see more posts about how we make over our new flat? We have recently knocked a wall down to make an open plan kitchen/living room and are super excited about styling it. We've also replaced a few floorboards and are going to be sanding and re-varnishing those over the next week or so.

  1. If you are on a tight budget, a narrow vanity unit is a great option. ADP's Allie has a shallow projection of 150mm and includes internal and external cupboard shelves, a toilet roll holder, and space for a mixer tap. Alternatively, if you're not sure what type of bathroom vanity unit to buy, there are trusted brands such as Turner Hastings and Fienza that have a variety of options for every type of bathroom.
